If you are earnest when it comes to being and staying fit, you would of course appreciate some hard facts about the things you do. As it is a prevailing fact that a lot of health myths are out there, people subscribe to them and end up slowing their progress or leading them to quit altogether. Since you would of course not want this to happen to you, here are some of the leading health and fitness myths today and why they are myths in the first place. Pay attention now, you might just be a supplicant to one of them.

Feeling the pain means more gain

No, it does not. Working out does not need to yield massive amounts of hurt. As a matter of fact, if you are feeling aches and sores when working out, you are probably doing something you should not be doing. Now it is established fact that beginners will definitely be wincing after their session. This is because their bodies are adjusting to the tear and replacement of muscle tissues courtesy of their sets. However, this is not supposed to continue after you have been doing it for a while. If it is, you are either overdoing it, or you have a problem which your doctor will need to know.

Buckets of sweat means being unfit

Absolutely not. When you are sweating a lot, you are actually doing to right. Sweating immediately and in healthy amounts means that you are suitably adapted to cooling down. You might not be able to do the sets properly, but that just means that you need adjustments to the exercise and not the fitness.

Muscles turn into fat

One of the more common myths is that if you stop exercising, your muscles will turn into fat. No, it will not. Most definitely you will lose some muscle mass if you stop exercising, but the fat comes from the food you eat and not the muscles.

Longer and lower burns more fat

The only reason why a longer time and lower intensity would be a good idea for working out is when you are just beginning. But the fact of the matter is, higher intensity burns more calories per minute and the after burn lasts longer too. So if it is within your ability, go faster, heavier and with more conviction.

If you exercise a lot, eating whatever is okay

This is a failed concept. If you are looking to spend hours in the gym just so you could keep munching on junkfood and expect good results, you are highly mistaken. This is how it goes: not exercising and eating junkfood is bad, exercising and eating junkfood is a little better, exercising and eating healthy is best.

Exercise means nothing if you don’t do it hard and often

While it may be to your benefit when you exercise on a regular basis and with some resistance, even just the small stuff can have a lot of good effects on you. Doing chores, walking around the block, playing with your kids, these are things you can do to give you a boost.

Exercise means no sickness

Unfortunately, this is not true. While exercising can boost your immune system and make you more resistant to some diseases, it cannot protect you from everything. So do not expect that you will not have cancer just because you exercise. It is better to have other precautions too.

Weight training makes women bulky

Unless you have a very specific gene, you will never be equal to men in muscle size. It is simply fact that women’s muscles work differently than mens’. It is not discriminatory to say so, it is simply fact. Weight training will give you lean, tight muscles and is also the most effective way to lose fat naturally.
